Featured Artist: Marcus Jansen had an installation at the Boscolo Hotels that was scheduled to be deinstalled. The hotel informed Jansen that they would like to extend his exhibition an additional week at the request of the Dalai Lama who wants to see Jansen’s work. VERSACE has also requested Jansen’s works be submitted for a private event in November, 2016.

Marcus Jansen — began exhibiting at age six when one of his drawings of a lion was selected to be shown at the Lever House in Manhattan. Later, he worked as an artist through the 80s in Germany after being introduced to Graffiti.  After serving in the Gulf War in the early 90s Jansen’s first book, “Modern Urban-Expressionism” was published in 2006 by art dealer, Jean-Marc Alphan in Paris, France. The foreward of the book, written by former Museum director of traveling exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), Jerome A. Donson, refers to Jansen as “the innovator of Modern-Expressionism”.

Jansen’s first U.S. show was at the Madison Square Garden Film & Art Festival in 1999. Jansen’s work has since appeared in Biennials in Russia, South Africa, Europe, South America and Asia. In 2008, Jansen was commissioned by Warner Brothers in Hollywood for an interpretation of the 1939 story, The Wizard of Oz, honoring the company’s 80th Anniversary.  Jansen was then noted in Who’s Who in American Art and became more widely known for his “Absolut Blank” bottle for “Absolut Vodka”. In 2012, Jansen’s work, Creeping Obstacles in Kansas, appeared on the cover of No. 94 of the New American Paintings alumni selection by juror, Dan Cameron., founder of the Prospect New Orleans Biennial inc., which made Jansen the first Florida based artist to ever do so. Jansen has also been featured in a documentary film by John Scoular titled “Marcus Jansen Examine and Report” which had its World Premiere at the Fort Myers Film Festival and was awarded Best Local Film.

In addition, Jansen’s work has appeared in exhibitions at La Triennale di Milano Museum, Moscow Museum of Art, Boca Raton Museum of Art, Housatonic Museum of Art, Naples Museum of Art, National Taiwan Museum of Fine Art and the Cityleaks Urban Art Biennale in Cologne, Germany in 2015.  Jansen’s work also appears in the following collections: New Britain Museum of American Art, Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, the Housatonic Museum of Art, the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, the Ulyanovsk Museum Fine Arts, the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Art, the PERMM Museum of Contemporary Art, Smithsonian Institution, the U.S. Department of State Art in Embassies Program and UNESCO in Paris France. Jansen has stated that he works “in a subject matter of portraiture, politics, and banality. I’m a figurative painter, though to me it’s so abstract, that it’s concrete: I just like having a figurative excuse to distribute paint unevenly onto a canvas. My medium is acrylic, oil, iron oxide (rust) and collage. The color spectrum is narrow on the cusp of black and white and color: core tones are black, white, teal and rust”.
